Psychology services from Attune

  • We offer evidence-based, neuroaffirmative holistic support for exploring neurodiversity at any age. Whether you are seeking a thorough assessment for yourself or a family member, ongoing therapeutic support, strengths-based recommendations, help liaising with other services or understanding previous assessments, we can help.

Children and adults with neurodiverse brains, such as those with Autism, ADHD, or other differences, often experience unique challenges in navigating a world that may not always accommodate their needs. Our services are designed to empower individuals and families by championing the unique strengths and perspectives that a neurodiverse lens can bring, fostering self-acceptance as well as focusing on needs.

We recognise that any kind of neurodiversity is just one piece a wider puzzle in an individual’s experience. Our holistic approach goes beyond diagnosis, considering the full spectrum of factors that may influence wellbeing, such as trauma, mood and emotional regulation difficulties, other mental health considerations, challenges at school, in the workplace, and family dynamics. By considering all of these interconnected aspects, we aim to provide support that truly addresses the whole person and their unique circumstances, rather than focusing on any single element in isolation.

This comprehensive support ensures that, regardless of where you are on your neurodevelopmental journey, you will receive personalised care that respects and celebrates your individuality.

    Specialist neurodevelopmental assessments

Our approach to neurodevelopmental assessments is rooted in neuroaffirmative practice. We believe in exploring neurodiversity through a strengths-based lens, ensuring that our recommendations not only identify areas of support but also celebrate individual capabilities and differences. This ethos guides our multidisciplinary team to deliver assessments that are both thorough and respectful, considering all aspects of an individual’s life, empowering individuals and families with meaningful insights tailored to their unique profiles.

    On-going support

We recognise that receiving a diagnosis is often just the beginning of a journey, and it can take time to adjust and process what this means for you or your family. Our approach is holistic, considering the wider context of neurodiversity and how it may relate to other challenges you might face. Importantly, we do not end our support at the point of diagnosis; instead, we work collaboratively with you to develop a comprehensive ongoing plan that may include individual therapy, family and parenting support, school liaison, workplace recommendations and reasonable adjustments, as well as coordination with other services such as the NHS and referrals for medication where appropriate. Our aim is to ensure that every aspect of your wellbeing is thoughtfully addressed, giving you the confidence and resources to thrive.

  • Our individual therapy is designed to help clients understand and transform deeply rooted emotional patterns that have developed over time. By drawing on evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as CBT, MBT, DBT, Schema Therapy and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy we support individuals in making meaningful changes in their lives, focusing on both the underlying causes of distress and the practical difficulties they face in the present moment.

Many individuals struggle with emotional responses and patterns that have their origins in past experiences, often dating back to childhood or significant life events. These patterns can manifest as persistent feelings of emptiness, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, sadness, anger, emotional dysregulation, difficulties in relationships, fearing rejection and low self-esteem. Our therapy aims to help clients bring awareness to these patterns, understand their origins, and explore how they influence current thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

While exploring the past is important, we place a strong emphasis on addressing difficulties as they arise in the present. By working collaboratively, we help clients develop practical strategies to manage distress, improve coping skills, and foster resilience. This dual focus ensures that therapy not only uncovers and addresses deep-seated issues but also equips individuals to handle everyday challenges more effectively.

  • Growing up is often fraught with challenges as children and adolescents navigate their evolving identities, relationships, and responsibilities. Developmental milestones bring both opportunities and pressures, and the process of becoming independent can be overwhelming. Life transitions, such as moving to a new school, changing friendships, or dealing with family changes like divorce, can be particularly challenging. These moments of upheaval often bring uncertainty, insecurity, and a need for new coping mechanisms. In today's digital age, social media and constant connection are integral to the lives of young people. While these platforms offer opportunities for socialisation and self-expression, they can also exacerbate feelings of comparison, isolation, and anxiety. Mental health concerns are increasingly prevalent among children and young people. At Attune, we recognise the multifacted and often complex nature of childrens internal and external lives.

At the heart of therapy with children and young people we hold the belief that behaviour is a form of communication. When young people act out, withdraw, or struggle to regulate their emotions, it often reflects underlying needs or unresolved issues. Therapy with Attune, seeks to understand the behaviours and associated coping patterns rather than merely correct them, helping young people and their families identify the root causes and address them compassionately. This approach encourages introspection and dialogue, ensuring that every action is seen as an opportunity for connection and understanding.

  • At Attune, parenting work emphasises understanding children's behaviour as a form of communication, encouraging parents to look beyond surface actions and consider underlying needs or emotions. This approach helps parents recognise when their own emotional 'buttons' are being pushed, fostering greater self-awareness and empathy. By working together, parents can gain a deeper insight into both their own reactions and their child's experiences, allowing them to collaborate effectively in problem-solving, setting boundaries, and providing consistent guidance. This partnership not only benefits children, but also strengthens the relationship between parents as they support each other in navigating the challenges of parenting.

  • Family therapy, for us at Attune, is a transformative process that views the family as a dynamic system rather than a collection of isolated individuals. We create a safe and nonjudgmental space where emotions can be shared openly, misunderstandings clarified, and connections restored. By considering the family as a whole, therapy with Attune delves into the unique ways in which family members interact, communicate, and influence one another. Our therapy recognizes that the behaviors, roles, and patterns established within the family context deeply affect individual well-being and the group dynamic.

  • With Attune, couples therapy provides a supportive space for partners to explore and understand their individual behavioural patterns, as well as the ways in which these patterns interact and shape the relationship. By fostering greater empathy for both oneself and one's partner, couples are able to address and heal emotional wounds, work collaboratively on present-day conflicts, and rebuild trust. This process, with us, encourages honest communication, mutual respect, and a renewed sense of connection, laying the foundation for a healthier and more resilient partnership.
